This year I was delighted to become the first University of Northampton Student Ambassador at Metro Imaging. This has been an extremely rewarding experience to have been able to receive. This work has been going on throughout the year and has involved working alongside all departments in the company as well as providing a ‘bridge’ between Metro Imaging and the University. The role has required regular journeys to their London printing laboratory.
Through this work I have been able to experience what it is like to work in a professional printing laboratory, something which I have very much enjoyed. I have been able to work with the different printers and machinery, engaged and witnessed how clients work with the technicians to perfect the image ready for print, as well as receiving 1to1 sessions to learn more detailed photoshop techniques for readying an image for print. This has not only helped me professionally, but has also benefitted me when carrying out other experience, such as helping with Photoshop editing during the University discovery day I have also helped out at.
My knowledge of printing techniques and paper types has also greatly developed through this experience. This has allowed me to be able to help make and suggest informed decisions regarding paper types, such as advice for printing for our upcoming Exhibition. As well as being able to help out my peers in terms of advice for printing, I have also been in contact with Metro to discuss ideas that will benefit ourselves as students. For example, I am currently negotiating a discount for ordering as a large group, on top of the existing 10% student discount.
Working with Metro has been an extremely rewarding experience and I will no doubt will continue to use them in the future.
